Gig Review - Eaton Tavern
Posted on December 18, 2009 with 0 commentsFriday 18th December 2009: Eaton Tavern played host to Delayed Reaction whose Christmas cheer was well and truly alive as they called for donations for the Salvo’s Christmas Appeal. Not only was this a fantastic cause, but also if you were one of the lucky first 50 donators (indeed I was) you scored a free Delayed Reaction cd! Gotta love that! Were you there? If not, then why? You sure missed a rockin’ night.
As 8.30pm rolled around the main tavern lights dimmed and the anticipation grew. The sweet drum beats began, the lights strobed across the room and then….BAM it was on!!
There was a decent size crowd forming which proved to almost triple in size as the night went on. Opening the first set with ‘Eve of Destruction’, many revellers were being a little reserved and the dance floor was a tad quiet. I wasn’t having that though, so up I hop along with a few friends and start dancing away. Four or five songs in and the ever-popular ‘Shrek’ song Believer started. Now the crowd were warming up, one by one they merged to the dance floor and started to get their groove on to songs like Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, Get A Haircut & Warning. The air cons were pumped, the temperature was comfortable and the atmosphere was great.
After a short break the crowd were eager to hear more timeless tunes. The second set included classics such as Copperhead Road (my personal fav!), Born To Be Wild, Sweet Home Alabama, Gloria and Wild Thing, to name just a few. The bar staff were fantastic and kept the drinks flowing steadily which pleased us patrons. The dance floor was now filled and the crowd were having an awesome time.
As the night went on and the beverages kept being enjoyed, the third set saw the band gain many more ‘back up’ singers (if you can call us that!) Covering artists like Smokie, The Rolling Stones, The Angels, The Proclaimers, Wolfmother and of course THE rock gods Acca Dacca (ACDC), the nights set was delivered with bulk amount of energy and enthusiasm and included songs that could be related to and enjoyed by old and young alike. The lighting was great and the sound spot on, what more could you ask for.
As the clock rounded midnight the infamous call for last drinks was made much to everyone’s disappointment. As the band hammered out an ACDC classic in ‘High Voltage’ pretty much every groover there was ‘shaking their tail feather’. As the song ended, the crowd just wanted more and a mass chant started for an encore and did the band disappoint? Hell to the no! Time to crank out a lil’ bit of Rage Against The Machine. The crowd erupted and a mini ‘mosh pit’ @ the Tav was formed. There was some serious strumming, drumming and humming going on as the sound resonated throughout the entire Tavern (and probably half of Eaton!). As the encore was wrapped up the very professional security staff tried their upmost to get the crowd moving which was no easy task. This crowd was pumped; you could almost see everyone’s endorphins running wild. The DR boyz had done once again, left us all hanging for more.
So for a kick arse night of good ol’ rocking tunes, do yourself a favour and experience the Aussie Pub Rock sensation that is Delayed Reaction.
Coming to a venue near you!
